The Montessori philosophy is based on many factors. The prepared environment, the Montessori directress', the materials and the exposure to lessons which will expand your child's knowledge. The curriculum is stated in many areas. The formal subjects are Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, Practical Life, Geography & Botany.

Mathematics

Mathematics is studied through the use of numerals and figures. Children are able to “see” the accumulation and growth in the lessons and are not just taught by memorizing. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division are all taught in the preschool classroom. Children also learn Fractions and the Decimal System in a developmentally appropriate manner.

Language

Language is taught in a Montessori classroom in a number of ways. Sensorial is incorporated into Language by use of texture & color. Children learn the sounds of each letter as opposed to the name of each letter. By using the sounds, each child is then equipped for “preparation for reading”. After the child begins to read, the “sounds” are then written which form words, then sentences. Vocabulary and Handwriting are also strengthened through nomenclature.

Sensorial

Sensorial strengthens the use of the five senses with:

- Visual discrimination of size.
- Visual discrimination of form.
- Visual discrimination of color.
- Sense of touch.
- Auditory discrimination
- Tasting lessons
- Smelling lessons

Practical Life

Practical Life enhances gross and fine motor skills. The children also learn Care of Self & Care of Environment by doing.

Geography

In the Montessori classroom, children learn geography on a national scale as well as a global scale.
